Turkish Contractors Maintained Second Place in the World in the Giants League

Turkey's Global Construction Success in 2023

Despite global challenges, Turkey secured its position in the "World's 250 Largest International Contractors" list for 2023 with 43 companies, maintaining its second place globally. China led the list with 81 companies, followed by the USA with 38 companies. Turkey's share in the global construction market was 3.7%.

  • Leadership and Dedication: M. Erdal Eren, President of the Turkish Contractors Association (TCA), praised the relentless efforts of Turkish contractors and their employees. He highlighted that despite the ongoing war, Russia remained Turkey's largest market in 2023. Efforts are also underway to participate in Ukraine's post-war reconstruction.
  • Expanding Markets: Turkish contractors are increasing their presence in markets such as Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Algeria, Poland, Romania, and Sub-Saharan African countries. In 2024, Portugal was added to the list, bringing the total number of countries to 137.
  • ENR's Annual List: The "World's 250 Largest International Contractors List" by ENR (Engineering News Record) is based on contractors' revenues from international activities. Turkey maintained its second place with 43 companies.
  • Economic Impact: ENR's bulletin "Contractors Balance Higher Risks" noted that the total value of projects by the top 250 international firms reached USD 499.7 billion in 2023, the highest since 2015. The bulletin emphasized the challenges of global inflation, regional conflicts, supply chain issues, and cost increases, highlighting the proactive steps contractors are taking to mitigate risks and diversify operations.
  • Top Performers: Among the top 100 companies, 6 were Turkish, with one making it into the top 50.

Achievements and Recognition:

  • Milestone Projects: In 2023, Turkish contractors completed over 12,000 projects in 136 countries, surpassing the 500 billion threshold.
  • Resilience and Success: Despite the competitive nature of the construction industry and various global crises, Turkish contractors have maintained their position through dedication and hard work.
  • Future Prospects: The TCA plans to honor the 43 companies that made it to the ENR list at the "Overseas Contracting Services Award Ceremony" on September 18, 2024, with the presence of the President and the Minister of Trade.
